West Kirby as a place to live

West Kirby is situated on the Wirral peninsula, overlooking North Wales over the Dee Estuary, and close to the Mersey and Liverpool.  Windsurfing, sailing and running are popular outdoor activities thanks to its fantastic microclimate. The Wilson Trophy is held in West Kirby every May, and there have been some fantastic windsurfing speed records achieved by committed enthusiasts. Wirral Council takes great pride in supporting outside activities in the area.

West Kirby Schools and Local Government

West Kirby has two grammar schools, an excellent secondary modern, and a proactive residential school. There are also a number of local primary and junior schools. As a result West Kirby educates over 2,000 students every single term. Not a bad record for such a little town!

West Kirby’s residents are eclectic and very politically aware, holding a proud record for the highest turnout in Wirral elections. West Kirby is Conservative by local government, but not by its actions

Niche shops and businesses thrive. Cafe culture is embraced by the locals, who have a number of incredible places to breakfast, brunch or dine.  Aubergine, Lattetude, SweetPea and Surfers rank highly for places to spend an hour, to relax and refresh both the body and the spirit.

Hilbre Island is a popular destination, and a marvellous adventure if people fancy a strong afternoon walk. Stay there when tide comes in and you can see nature at its very best. Ashton Park,Victoria Park, Sandlea Park, Newton Park West Kirby has some pretty impressive public spaces.  Tennis courts, bowling greens, outside theatre, plants and shrubs.  Hollow trees and swings, football teams and fields. The Wirral Way will lead you on.

West Kirby is great for shopping, too. Need carpets or curtains, deli treats, school uniforms, high fashion… it’s all available from personable and friendly local businesses. Great butchers, excellent clothes, Christmas lights, venison sausages – you want it,West Kirby will have it!

House prices have risen faster than the UK average – after all Rafa Benitez , Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler and many others have made the area their home. A few minutes down the road from West Kirby is Hoylake, home to Royal Open Golf and many other global competitions.

Want more? West Kirby is a short fifteen minute drive to Liverpool, a few minutes from M56, the backbone of  Wirral, 40 minutes to the M6, a two-and-a-half hour drive to London, or you can catch a train from Lime Street. Commuter heaven.

Did we also mention that West Kirby has a fantastic beach? Also nearby is Liverpool, home of the world-famous Albert Dock, the Cavern, Museums, the Tate Gallery, the Liver Buildings and more.West Kirbydoesn’t suffer from light pollution. We can see the ISS, Venus, Jupiter and Mercury almost every night on a clear sky.

West Kirby is a place to live and a day-trip destination for tourists

West Kirby is a day-trip destination for tourists. In the background is a quiet populace that embodies the spirit of a strong, positive community.  Fantastic schools and shops, excellent local council, well-built houses, beautiful outside spaces, a library, sports centre and a passionate, active community (via Wirral forums).

West Kirby has the sand, sea and sun. A beautiful microclimate, lattes, paninis. It has award-winning schools, a thoughtful local government, area forums where people can have their say. People drink in the sun as they run around the marine lake, cycle through the Wirral Way, swing in Ashton Park….West Kirby truly is the wonder of the Wirral.
