How Do You Get Rid Of Stress When Moving House?

There’s no doubt that moving house is stressful. There are so many things that can get in the way. The best thing you can do is plan and use a moving house checklist. So how do you get rid of stress when moving house?

Be Kind To Yourself When Moving House

There are likely to be emotions when moving house. Moving to the next chapter of your life can be daunting. The most important thing is to be kind to yourself. Moving house is definitely one of the most stressful things you can do, however if you do what you can to plan and mitigate it should make it easier for you.

Let’s be honest though, some things are out of your control when moving house. All you can do is plan for your tasks, but make sure you keep on top of any tasks due from third parties such as solicitors, removals companies and financial advisors to name a few!

For the purpose of this blog post we are starting from the point that you are due to move to a new home and have either:

  • given notice on your current rental property
  • agreed an offer on your current property for sale

Plan Ahead By Using A Moving Home Checklist

We actually have two, both are free to use! One moving house checklist can be downloaded for you to print off. The other is an interactive moving house checklist. You create an account and login and track your moving checklist there with the ability to tick off. Or you can create your own.

The checklists we have created should have all the core tasks you need to undertake. Everyone’s home move is different. So there will be slightly different tasks depending on your situation.

If you are using our downloaded checklist or someone else’s you can just add your own tasks underneath or on a separate sheet of paper. Likewise if you are using our interactive checklist there is a notes section for you to update and add other tasks if you so wish.

DIY House Move Or Getting Help?

If you are doing the move all by yourself make sure you give yourself plenty of time to do the tasks in hand. If you are getting help, make sure you know which tasks they are picking up or helping you with. For example, it could be family and friends helping you move on the day or using a removals company.

Keep An Essentials Box Or Bag

You need to make sure you have this to hand when moving. If you like your teas and coffees this would include the kettle, tea bags and coffee and may contain some milk and sugar if that’s what you like in your cuppas. Likewise if you are moving with kids make sure you have their favourite toys and / or comfort blankets to hand.

Likewise it is great to have your cleaning gear and any tools that you may need handy when you move to your new home.

Make Sure You’ve Had Enough Rest

It’s so important to make sure you are ready for moving day. You don’t want to feel tired or exhausted. Make sure you have got enough rest and feel ready for your house move.

What Other Things Do You Need To Update When Moving?

Don’t forget you can sign up for our free interactive moving house checklist. Even better that there is a handy notes section to personalise or add other tasks that aren’t there for you to tick off.
