Teenagers who have been taking part in unique apprenticeship scheme have been impressing the Lord Mayor of Liverpool with their personal experiences of the project.
They explained to Cllr Roz Gladden how the award-winning project had given them a confidence boost and offered life-changing opportunities.
The housing association Regenda Homes has run two community wellbeing apprenticeship projects, offering 28 young people the chance to combine work placements with college study while also carrying out work in their local community.
During her visit to meet the apprentices at the Breckfield and North Everton Community Centre, the Lord Mayor said: “Young people are individuals and you can’t fit everybody into the same slot. Give them an opportunity like this, where they have a purpose, and suddenly they’re flying. This is an excellent project and it’s great to see the apprentices maturing and blossoming.”
Eighteen year-old community apprentice Daniel Loughran said: “We could tell the Lord Mayor was really interested in what we’ve been doing. She knows we’ve grabbed every opportunity we’ve been offered and achieved such a lot in a really short space of time.”
Steve Newsham, regional director of Regenda Homes, told the Lord Mayor: “We are very proud of them. We’ve had a few fall outs and tears but we’ve also had lots of laughter and success with our apprentices along the way.”
