WDH has submitted plans to transform the former fire station site on Stuart Road, Pontefract into 37 residential apartments. The planning application forms part of the delivery of Wakefield Council’s Reconnecting Pontefract Masterplan.
TheMasterplan, includes proposals for the redevelopment of priority areas around Pontefract town centre in order to better connect the historic town centre with the Castle, Racecourse and new leisure hub. This includes the development of new homes, delivery of new infrastructure, improved cycle and walking routes to increase accessibility as well as more green spaces to improve the town for local residents and visitors.
The former fire station site has been identified as a gateway to the town and the proposed new development of 37 one- and two-bedroom apartments, will create high quality, contemporary, homes which reflect the industrial heritage of Pontefract.
Delivered by Yorkshire based Caddick Construction for WDH, the new three storey apartments will feature a creative and modern roof design, that will draw visitors’ attention as they enter the town. The apartments will also be situated in the town centre, making it a desirable place for those who like to be close to key amenities.
The properties will all be available for affordable rent from WDH and are a precursor to the wider regeneration of the Horsefair area of Pontefract. The properties will be developed utilising £1,665,000 funding from the Homes England Wave 2 programme.
Once planning approval is granted, work will then begin on site this summer and will be due for completion by August 2022.
